CCHD have worked with Mid Coast Council on the incremental upgrade of Old Bar Road, between the M1 Motorway and Old Bar from concept layouts to detail design IFC documentation. The works involved widening the existing carriageway to accommodate the desired carriageway cross section (lane widths/widening & shoulders) and importantly upgrade of superelevation on curves to suit current guidelines and avoiding aquaplaning. The works also included upgrades to the numerous intersections along Old Bar Road that included channelised left and right (CHR) turn bays and shoulder widening (BAR & BAL) and accommodate the appropriate design vehicles. To improve flood immunity and meet the 1 in 20-year flood levels, sections of the carriageway were lifted and additional drainage works included culvert extension and construction of grassed and rock lined drainage swale to increase stormwater capacity.
